Additional Information
Folders will be sent home on Thursdays with information for parents. Please look for our weekly edition of the "Weekly Wave" for good news and information about Beach Elementary and its students.
Arrival at School | School begins promptly at 8:45 a.m. Students who arrive after 8:45 a.m. need to be signed in by the parent in the front office. Students should not be brought to school prior to 8:35 a.m. unless an arrangement has been made with the teacher, Vice Principal, or Principal. |
Attendance | Attendance directly affects the academic achievement of the children. Parents are requested, whenever possible, to make doctor and dentist appointments on weekends or school holidays. A child who has been absent from school should bring a note from home upon his/her return to school. |
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures | Our school day begins at 8:45 a.m. and instruction ends at 3:30 p.m. Parents/guardians must sign their child/ren in on the main office computer after 8:45 am (tardy) and must sign out prior to 3:00 p.m. on the office computer (early dismissal). Students will not be dismissed from the office after 3:30 p.m., and will need to be signed out at the car rider parking lot near the gym. Car riders will be called at 3:30 p.m. to report to the gym and then to their car. When signing out your child/ren, please bring your personal ID to show office staff or dismissal staff. PLEASE NOTE: Any time someone other than the parent or guardian will be picking up the child from school, we must have a written note with the person's name. We cannot take these changes over the phone. On two hour early dismissal days, the early dismissal sign out time would be 1:00 p.m. Car riders would then be called at 1:30 p.m. On two hour late arrival days, parents would need to sign in their child/ren after 10:45 a.m. |
Change of Residence, Telephone Number, or Transfer |
If you change your address, home telephone number or work telephone number, please notify the school office at once. |
Administration of Medication |
For all medications - prescription and over-the-counter - a doctor's written order is required. Children cannot transport medication on school buses. Parents must bring medication to the office and see Ms. Payne, the nurse. Medication must be counted and a form must be signed by parent and nurse. There are no exceptions to these rules. |
Emergency Information | Parents are requested to keep the school up to date on any changes of phone numbers in order that you or your designee may be reached quickly in case of an emergency. (If parents cannot be reached, the school will call the person specified on the child's emergency card). No child will be released to someone not on the emergency card. |
Fire Drills | Students, teachers, and other district employees shall participate in drills of emergency procedures. When the alarm is sounded, all students will exit the building quickly, quietly, and in an orderly manner. |
Free and Reduced Price Meals | Applications for Free and Reduced Price Meals are distributed to all students during the first week of school, and are also available upon request throughout the school year. |
Homework | Parents may wish to set aside 20 to 60 minutes each evening for children to read, practice spelling or math, or do assigned homework. This is an important pattern of responsibility to establish when children are young. Parents of very young children may want to use this time to read to their youngster. |
Inclement Weather | School may either be delayed in opening by a specific number of hours or completely closed for the day. Please listen to the radio or TV stations for information on school closings. |
Insurance | School insurance forms are distributed to each child during the first week of school. |
Loading and Unloading Students from Private Vehicles | Parents are requested to allow children to ride the school buses provided for their transportation. Whenever it is necessary for a student to be brought to school in the morning in a private automobile, he/she is to be let off in the lower parking lot adjacent to the walkway that leads to the school entrance by the gym. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT BE LET OFF IN THE BUS LANE AT ANY TIME. Whenever a student is to leave the school in a private vehicle, the parent should sign the child out, and walk him/her to the vehicle. This procedure will serve to assure the child’s safety from moving vehicles. PLEASE DO NOT PARK IN THE FIRE LANES OR BLOCK THE BUS LANES. |
Parent Conferences | Parent conferences are held periodically throughout the school year (see Calvert - County Public Schools Calendar). We are also happy to arrange parent conferences at other times during the school year. |
Request to Leave School Early | A request to have a child excused from classes early should be sent with the child on the morning of the dismissal. Students who leave more than one hour and 30 minutes before dismissal will be counted absent for one half day. A child will be released only to the parents unless the school has been notified by the parents that they have granted permission for someone else to pick up their youngster. |
Student Dress | The student and parent may determine the student’s personal dress standards, provided that the student’s dress: 1. Shall not disrupt, interfere with, disturb, or detract from school activities. 2. Shall not create a health hazard to the student’s safety or to the safety of others. 3. Should not have decorations, patches, lettering, advertisements, etc., that may be considered obscene, offensive, or lewd. |
Valuables | Valuable items and large sums of money should not be brought to school. Games and electronic devices must be approved in advance by the teacher. |
Visitors to the Building | All visitors to Calvert County Public Schools are asked to report to the office when they arrive at the building. Parents are always welcome. |
